I would appreciate links to what are hopefully "reference" images that reflect the correct output according to spec.
This lack of reference reader/writer/viewver is why I said to Joris about trying ICCLAB ( I understand that ITULAB is "great").
The difference being only in the ab rescaling, from a codec point of view, the process is the same. And photoshop for exemple, perfectly load and display ICCLAB jpegintiff files, with various subsamplings.
But only 8 bits depth... :-(((
I have some I can place somewhere in cyberspace.
IMHO, anyway you turn the question and for a lot of reasons, ( de facto ) out of your own personnal well controled scope, a "jpegintiff CIELAB affair" for any purpose other that what PhotoShop can do ( in turn save a monochrome file with a well defined calibrated L grayscale ) is basically... hazardous.
