At least the declaration of 'int tif_fd;' (struct tiff) seams to be suspicious, as this value is used to hold file pointers (possibly with an 64bit value).

File pointers in classic TIFF are allowed to remain 32bit, if that is helpful, as the format itself uses 32bit offsets and thus is limited to 4 gigabytes. See http://www.awaresystems.be/imaging/tiff/faq.html#q8.
