If possible, can you please mail me a few sample images with bit-depth not a multiple of 8. I couldnt find any such tif.

Such images are to be found in the GraphicsMagick test suite. In particular, look in the subdirectory "PerlMagick/t/tiff". There are also a few interesting images to be found at ftp://ftp.graphicsmagick.org/pub/outgoing/.
