It is not the best, to use the name RLE for a particular compression format, because it has a general meaning. It is one of the base methods of compressing raster images.

But it is common to miss-use it; some programs offers only "RLE" for the compression format PackBits. And if I ask "what RLE do you mean ?" more then one people makes large eyes and thinks I am a little bit thick.
