What is the format of a JPEG file? Is a JPEG file a TIFF file with JPEG encoding?
No, absolutely not. JPEG is an independent file format that has nothing to do with TIFF.
More specifically, the file format that most people call "JPEG" is actually the JFIF format ("JPEG File Interchange Format"). JPEG encoded data streams can be used in other formats (such as TIFF, Postscript, PDF, and DICOM).
