How come the AsTiffTagViewer found the three 8's? Is there a behavior that the child (which is the thumbnail) would inherit this particular characteristic of the parent (main image)???

The version of AsTiffTagViewer that is currently for download, does not work with child IFDs. So either

• it is indeed a child IFD. In that case, AsTiffTagViewer is showing you no data about it.
• it is not a child IFD. In that case, I'm pretty sure AsTiffTagViewer is correct. The '0 samples' stuff may be related to other things.
• If the file is under 1 megabyte in size, you may send it to my personal e-mail address, and I'll take a closer look.
