When you say "https://github.com/Esri/lerc.git", I assume you mean the master version. Yes it is ahead of the v2.2.1 tag. On my Linux box, Lerc master works fine with tiffcp.

When switching between liblerc, do you make sure to rebuild libtiff against the new updated Lerc headers? Because due to the change in the signature of some functions, crashes like what you mention would be expected if using a libtiff build made against lerc v2.2.1 headers but running against lerc master .lib (or the reverse)
