AFAIK, there is no such thing as 16-bits per channels in the JPEG standard (only 8 and 12 bits are allowed).
With the IJG library, this can only be selected at compile time...
Yes, I stand corrected. I was thinking of 12bit support.
There is a modified libjpeg that supports 8 or 12 bit decisions at runtime, and it has been integrated with libtiff. But it is quite a hassle to dig up, and use.
