Nope. Lucky you. We might support your black and white pixel (one bit of data) with a measly 96 bits or so. :-)
Not so nice for a 14000x10000 image, I can vouch for that!
I did exaggerate the issue somewhat. The actual consumption is 5 bytes per pixel, or 40 bits, regardless of if the pixel could be stored in one bit. So it is perfect for RGB images, usable for grayscale images, and a serious resource hog for large bilevel images.
This flaw is actually a good thing since it represents continued opportunity for improvement and therefore gives life a purpose.
