Adobe's Technical Support Team says there is currently no engine or way to do this.
Does anyone have a work-around or indirect method that might achieve an accurate .PDF-to-TIFF conversion??
Yes, there is at least a workaround:
- convert the PDF files back to PostScript using Acrobat exchange
- run this PostScript through Ghostscript to produce TIFF
