I think that if you posted all mail to the newsgroup and all newsgroup to the mail list, we'd have an endless loop. You'd get the mail, and automatically put it in the newsgroup, which would then automatically send it to the mailing list which would put it again in the newsgroup. The good thing about a newsgroup over the maillling list is you can see what people answer to other people so you don't have to keep reasking the same questions over and over.
Also people who don't want it don't have to look at it or worry about unsubscribing.
