People should be aware that the JBIG implementation does NOT allow for commercial use of LibTIFF, since it is based on JPEG-KIT. Anyone shipping commercial products based on this release will either have to remove it, or obtain a license.

As further clarification, it is possible to use JPEG-KIT for commercial use as long as you are willing to give away the source code to the application which links with it (as per GPL). There are many commercial scenarios where this does work.

Of course it may be necessary to pay patent license fees to someone.
