Dear Libtiff Newbie,

You are on the right track but you should be building with libtiff 3.9.1 rather than 3.8.2. It is almost always best to start with the current release rather than a release with bugs already fixed. The 3.9.1 release passes its test suite under MinGW (at least for me).

If you are feeling brave, you could try the 4.0.0beta4 pre-release which has a much larger test suite but also might require minor changes to the using application due to using 64-bit offers.
