Is there a sample on how to write tiff pyramid. I'm not 100% sure on how to create and save the subifds.

The notion of "tiff pyramid" is undefined since there are several different schemes described as "tiff pyramid". Which tiff pyramid format do you want to support?

I'm speaking of the TIFF pyramid as provided by Adobe Photoshop. Since Adobe owns the tiff specs, I guess that's the only official scheme.

What I'm lookking for is sample code, not the scheme itself.
