what you need to do is some sort of descreening to avoid the moires you are getting, and then convert the contone CMYKs to RGB and then create your profile.

I don't think descreening is a point here. A sort of descreening happens by downsampling from 26240 pixel to 5% of its original size.

This is quite a complicated area and you would have to investigate it yourself.

oh yes. this is complicated, I agree. It's a common task here at our newspaper, because material sent by our customers is quite bad now and then :)
